QUALIFICATIONS:             Applicants must possess a minimum of a high school disploma; Must also possess basic cooking skills plus experience in food service and volume meal preparation, a working knowledge of food handling requirements. Prior experience in food handling and service desired.

 

General Statement of Job

Under the guidance of the Nutrition Manager, the kitchen Assistant prepares food in a developmentally appropriate manner for infants and toddlers. The Assistant supports the Nutrition Manager in the day-to-day operation of a food service to ensure that children's nutritional needs are met.

 

 

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  1.      Follows a menu provided by the Nutrition Manager in order to prepare meals.
  2.      Follows all food and safety policies and procedures in handling food.
  3.      Assists with cleaning and maintaining the kitchen, food service utensils, equipment, and food storage areas to standards mandated by the South Carolina Department of Social Services and the Department of Health and Environmental Services, and best practices with regard to food safety and sanitation.
  4.      Assists in the inventory and stocking of food products  and supplies
  5.      Assists in the delivery of meals to each classroom, daily.
  6.      Works closely with the Nutrition Manager to develop proficiency in the daily operations of the kitchen in order to enable the assistant to prepare meals if the Nutrition Manager is absent.
  7.      Adheres to the Early Head Start philosophy to maintain confidentiality and professionalism and follow s Performance Standards.
  8.      Attends trainings as assigned.
  9.      Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Strength: Sedentary/Light - Exert force to 25 lbs., occasionally. Physical Demands: Frequent sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Stamina to remain on feet for extended periods of time. 

 

EVALUATION: Job performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of District Board Policy.
