Description
  1. Ensures the care, safety, and well-being of all children.
  2. Implements an age appropriate program for children in his/her care.
  3. Arranges the environment to meet the changing needs of children in his/her care.
  4. Creates bulletin boards, and maintains inside and outside space and furnishings.
  5. Places labels and arranges belonging to make things more accessible to all.
  6. Facilitates teacher-child interactions by engaging in meaningful play, responding to facial expressions and verbalizations to foster a positive learning environment.
  7. Works cooperatively with the supervising teacher and other staff to ensure compliance of codes for all state and local governing agencies: Department of Social Services (DSS), DHEC and fire department.
  8. Demonstrates and models a sound knowledge of good teaching practices and understanding of child growth and development for infants/toddlers.
  9. Participates in staff meetings, discussions and on-going training as it relates to program services, children and parents.
  10. Participates in a minimum of 15 clock hours of training yearly as mandated by DSS.
  11. Promotes good health and nutrition by providing an environment that contributes to the prevention of illness. Cleans, at least daily,with a sanitizing solution, all toys and objects used and "mouthed" by infants/toddlers.
  12. Ensures that all play, feeding and sleeping areas are cleaned and disinfected throughout the day as needed. Changes crib sheets, sweeps, vacuums, and/or mops during the regular day when necessary.
  13. Washes hands before/after assisting with toilet time, blowing noses, and before food preparation.
  14. Assists with picking up breakfast, lunch, snacks and supplies as needed.
  15. Ensures that trash receptacles are kept covered throughout the day and securely tied at the end of the day.
  16. Writes daily child development plans, anecdotal records, and daily/weekly summaries as required.
  17. Ensures compliance of Head Start Performance Standards and district policies.
  18. Conducts home visits and parent conferences.
  19. Ensures safety of children by monitoring indoor and outdoor areas continuously.
  20. Provides opportunities for parental input and participation.
  21. Participates in training opportunities provided by the program.
  22. Drives or monitors on the bus for safe transporting of children.
  23. Dresses appropriately for childcare setting to ensure interaction (No heels, fashionable jewelry, etc.)
  24. Carries out any other duties as assigned by the EHS Director, coordinator and supervisors.

 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum of a CDA and work toward an Associate’s Degree in Early Care and Education, a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 18 hours in early childhood. Prior experience in working with young children in a licensed and/or accredited facility preferred.  Candidate should be in good health as confirmed by a physician’s statement with proof of being free of tuberculosis, fingerprint and central child abuse registry clearance.  In addition, the candidate must be able to interact with children on floor and lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
