Sumter School District is currently seeking short-term substitute teachers. Substitutes must have experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting, and be frequently available to work on an as needed basis. Short-term substitutes will work less than 30 hours per week. A favorable background/SLED check is required. Substitutes who hold South Carolina teacher certification are encouraged to apply. Candidates selected for substitute positions must attend a mandatory training prior to entering the district.
Short-term substitutes must possess a minimum of an Associate’s degree or 60 college credit hours. Long-term substitutes must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. Candidates who possess a high school diploma and meet the minimum requirements of the Paraprofessional Workkeys exams can be considered for paraprofessional substitute positions.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building.
- Reviews with the principal, department head, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
- Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he/she is assigned.
- Adheres to the lesson outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher’s Guide as prepared by the absent teacher.
- Consults as appropriate, with the building principal, department head, or team leader, before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified by the district.
- Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior at all times during the school day.
- Follows all policies, rules, and procedures as outlined by the district.
